Kim's earlier projects include Vertical Limit and Her Majesty shot in New Zealand.
Overseas, Kim has often worked largely with local
crews, working in South Pacific Fiji on Cast
Away, Legend of Zorro in Mexico, and Beyond
Borders in Thailand. Kim also created the look of a Japanese village
for The Last Samurai, actually built in a valley near New
Plymouth.
In 2010, Kim was one of three art department heads to win
both an Oscar and a BAFTA for their work on Avatar. Kim also worked on Under the
Mountain, headed the design team on The
Adventures of Tintin.
Kim was one of the supervising art directors on
the North American shoot of Man of
Steel and was a visual effects art director on Dawn of the
Planet of the Apes.
Kim was more recently the production designer of acclaimed New Zealand drama, The Dark Horse, and the Sundance Jury Prize winning action western film, Slow West.
