Alfonso more recently scored for Isabel Coixet, the dramatic film The Bookshop, starring Emily Mortimer as a woman struggling to run a business against polite but ruthless small-town opposition. He also composed for an acclaimed documentary about palindromes, ¡Viva el palíndromo!
